About Tommy Woodpecker Woodworks
Welcome to Tommy Woodpecker Woodworks, where every item is individually designed and handcrafted by me, Tommy, in my small workshop in Shropshire, England.
I am a professional wood turner, artisan, craftsman and carpenter with more than 20 years of experience creating handmade wooden gifts, bespoke woodwork and custom wooden products. Every item you see on this website is my own original design and is made entirely by hand. I do not outsource production, import products or sell mass-produced items. What you see here is genuine British craftsmanship.
A Lifetime Working with Wood
Working with wood has been my passion for as long as I can remember. Before establishing Tommy Woodpecker Woodworks, I spent many years restoring and renovating historic buildings, listed properties, castles, churches, follies and monuments throughout Shropshire and the Welsh Borders.
This background gave me a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, quality materials and timeless design, skills that continue to influence every piece I create today.

In Good Company
The handcrafted creations from Tommy Woodpecker Woodworks have found homes with customers across the UK and around the world. My work has been commissioned for film productions, West End theatres and the National Theatre. My handcrafted wooden items have also been chosen by the London Dungeon and Madame Tussauds.
I have proudly supplied handcrafted wooden gavels to some of the world’s leading auction houses, including Bonhams, Sotheby’s, and Christie’s, as well as Parliament, top Universities, Masonic Lodges across the world and our British Armed Forces. Every gavel is individually designed and made in my Shropshire workshop using carefully selected timber and traditional woodworking techniques. Whether I am creating a bespoke ceremonial gavel, a unique wooden gift or a one-of-a-kind commission, every piece receives the same attention to detail, quality craftsmanship and personal care.

Sustainably Sourced British Timber
I believe exceptional craftsmanship starts with exceptional timber.
I only use wood from sustainable sources and never use endangered species. Whenever possible, I recycle and re-purpose beautiful hardwoods from antique furniture, reclaimed timber and even vintage Lignum Vitae bowling balls. Much of my English timber comes from windblown trees or responsibly sourced garden trees, including many locally grown fruit woods. Every piece of timber has its own character, and I often spend days selecting the perfect piece before work even begins.
Traditional Finishes
I prefer finishes that enhance the natural beauty of wood rather than hide it.
Most of my creations are hand finished with natural beeswax to highlight the grain and texture, while kitchen items receive a food-safe oil finish suitable for everyday use. I never use varnish, stains, dyes or lacquer that obscure the wood’s natural appearance.
Handmade in Shropshire
Every product is individually handcrafted in my Shropshire workshop in the heart of England.
Nothing is imported. Nothing is mass produced. I do not manufacture overseas or licence my designs for production elsewhere. When you order from Tommy Woodpecker Woodworks, you receive an original piece made by the person who designed it.
Crafted with Care
Every project starts as an idea, a sketch or a conversation with a customer. From selecting the timber to the final polish, each stage is completed with patience, care and attention to detail.
Whether you are looking for a personalised wooden gift, a bespoke commission, a traditional woodworking tool or a unique decorative piece, my aim is always the same: to create something beautiful, functional and built to last for generations.
Although timber prices have risen significantly in recent years, I remain committed to offering handcrafted wooden gifts and bespoke woodworking across a wide range of budgets without compromising on quality or craftsmanship.
